Located within the suburban hills district, the development is a carefully considered rear extension to an existing single-storey brick veneer dwelling, designed to support the changing needs of a growing family. Baulkham Hills is characterised by generous residential allotments, mature streetscapes and family-oriented neighbourhoods. The project responds to this context by extending the life and functionality of a modest suburban home while preserving its connection to the surrounding landscape and community character.

The proposal introduces a modest rear addition that increases the home's internal floor area and reimagines the way spaces are experienced. A subtle split-level arrangement creates distinct zones for family living while maintaining visual and physical connectivity throughout the house. Recognising that many suburban homes struggle to bring natural light into the centre of the plan, the design incorporates high-level windows above communal spaces and skylights integrated within the balcony eaves to draw daylight deep into the interior. These interventions enhance spatial volume, soften transitional areas and create a more connected quality of amenity. The result is a contemporary family home that balances practicality, comfort and spatial layout within its established suburban setting.
