Located within the established suburbs of Ryde, this residence is a considered renovation that adapts an existing dwelling to support the evolving demands of contemporary living and home-based work. Ryde has a rich history as one of Sydney’s earliest suburban settlements, transitioning into a mature residential centre characterised by family homes, established streetscapes and strong connections to Sydney’s commercial hubs. Reflecting this evolution, the project responds to the increasing integration of work and domestic life by enhancing the functionality, amenity and flexibility of the existing residence.
The proposal focuses on refining the home's internal organisation through a series of targeted spatial upgrades. Existing layouts are reconfigured to improve privacy, circulation and day-to-day efficiency, including an upgrade of amenities and a formalised entry forecourt that establishes a clearer threshold between public and private realms. Custom joinery is carefully integrated throughout to maximise storage and functionality, while a warm and natural material palette creates a cohesive interior environment. Timber wall linings introduce texture and depth, and concealed doorways contribute to a calm, streamlined aesthetic. The result is a thoughtfully curated home that balances professional and family life while enhancing the quality and experience of everyday living.
